Do you know what our Official New York State Bird is? If you said Eastern Bluebird you’d be right.
Stop in the library this January to pick up your free Birding Kit! Everything that you need to feed our feathered friends from your own backyard this winter is included: bird seed, peanut butter, a wood-slice ornament with a pre-drilled hole and string to hang on a tree branch, and a craft stick/spreader. The Cornell Lab of Ornithology also provided a pamphlet to help you identify birds. Enjoy Cornell’s bird cam displayed at the library. Also, the library has lots of birding books and other resources for you to check out.
Have you heard about the annual Great Backyard Bird Count? Each February, for four days, the world comes together for the love of birds. This global event encourages everyone to count species of birds and track them online. The 24th annual GBBC will be held February 12 through February 15, 2021. Please visit the official website at birdcount.org, feederwatch.org, or Audubon.org for more information. We hope you will participate.
Other opportunities to learn more about birding this month include Bird Bingo on Thursday, January 21 at 6:30 pm and Tech Night on Thursday, January 28 at 6:00 pm!
