Saturday February 7, 9:30 AM

Join dulcimer maker and teacher Wayne Harbert for a hands-on workshop. We will spend the hour learning to play a few simple tunes on dulcimers made by the facilitator. (Participants are urged to bring their own dulcimers if they have them.) Beginners will learn to pick out tunes by ear and by reading the simple and easy notation system used for dulcimer sheet music. Those with some experience will have a chance to experiment with finger styles and playing with chords.

Everyone will take home an instruction booklet written by the facilitator containing information about the remarkable history, design, tuning, and playing of this unique, intuitive, sweet-sounding instrument, as well as a guide to resources like tuning apps, instructional videos, and sources for free sheet music for hundreds of melodies in dulcimer notation. Some dulcimers will be available for loan through the library. Registration for the workshop is encouraged but not required- call, email, or stop by the library to sign up!
